innogy eMobility GmbH in Dortmund (Germany) needed timely delivery of a complicated technological transition in a complex corporate environment. The project was organized using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and consisted of over 15 agile teams.
innogy eMobility Solutions is a leading innovator in advanced eMobility hard- and software, providing services to eMobility providers, chargepoint operators and electric vehicle (EV) drivers. The old ICON system was approaching its limits of the number of connected charging stations – imposing a hard deadline. The objective was to migrate all core functions to a new microservice-oriented platform without growth restrictions.
Given the limited number of charging points that the old system could handle – combined with the rapid growing number of charging points – innogy eMobility Solutions needed to ensure the new system would be ready on time. Jacques Dunselman was responsible as ‘Launch Manager’ to ensure the timely development of the new system, the migration from and decommissioning of the old system.
Jacques’ was responsible to ensure timely delivery by monitoring progress, identifying bottlenecks and proposing and taking relevant measures. These measures included setting up a layered estimation approach (allowing for independent estimates and forecasting on the program layer) and defining a better approach to define use cases (allowing for more structured PI Planning sessions and reduced dependencies).
The result was a seamless migration. With the new Future ICON deployed, innogy eMobility has a future-proof system that is more performant, scalable and adaptable while reducing operational costs.
IPMA, the International Project Management Association, awarded Jacques’ project team with the ‘Silver Project Excellence Award’ – ‘the project team has proven that its project management approach and results are of a world class level and are an excellent example to other project teams working in international project management.’
“Jacques was responsible for the delivery of the ‘Future ICON’ project at Innogy eMobility Solutions. The project came in on time and on budget in a very high level of quality. Jacques was always able to align the stakeholders, create transparency, and focus the teams on their work. In my 25 years of experience, he is hands down in the top 3 of the strongest project managers that I worked with. I am looking forward to starting the next large venture, so I can get him on board again. Everyone can consider himself lucky if someone of Jacques' caliber joins a project.”
